What is Betaine?
Betaine (aka trimethylglycine) is an organic compound found in a number of foods, including spinach, seafood, oats, flour, quinoa, cereal grains, and beets (from which its name is derived).
Betaine is also a derivative of choline -- an essential nutrient that plays a key role in the health and development of the nervous system.
What Does Betaine Do?
Betaine serves a number of important functions, but its two major roles are as a methyl donor and as an osmolyte.
As a methyl donor, betaine participates in the methionine cycle, which converts homocysteine back into methionine.
Why is this important?
Methionine is an essential amino acid used in the production of creatine -- the “king” of all bodybuilding supplements that’s shown to enhance lean mass gains, athletic performance, power, strength, etc.
Betaine’s other primary action of interest is as an osmolyte, which helps muscle cells draw in more water, improving hydration, cell volume, fatigue resistance, and “water-based” pumps.
Furthermore, betaine has been shown to protect internal organs, improve vascular risk factors, and enhance performance.
More specific to performance, numerous studies have been conducted on betaine and found that it may:
- increase lean muscle mass gains when used in combination with resistance training
- Reduce fatigue
- Boost muscle protein synthesis
- Improve endurance
- Support creatine production
- Decrease soreness
- Enhance work capacity
- Increase power output
Basically, if you’re already supplementing with creatine and you’re looking to take your muscle building supplement regimen to the next level, betaine is a no-brainer!
Not only does it support the body’s inherent ability to produce creatine, but it also independently enhances strength, power, performance, and lean mass gains all on its own!
Killer Labz Executioner supplies a muscle-cell swelling 2,000mg of betaine per serving for better performance, nastier muscle pumps, and greater gains!
