4 Gym Fails Every Beginner Should Avoid
The gym is the ultimate proving ground; a place where results are directly dependent on the level of dedication, desire, and determination he or she uses.
That being said, we’ve all witnessed some of the atrocities that befall beginners their first few times attempting to enter the school of iron.
With that in mind, we thought we’d toss you newbies a bone or two and help you avoid some of the most common gym fails we see that land people on viral YouTube Videos.
TOP FOUR COMMON BEGINNER GYM FAILS
CURLING IN THE SQUAT RACK
If there was ever a cardinal sin of the gym, it is curling in the squat rack.
The squat rack is for squatting. Take your pink dumbbells and puny biceps over by the mirrors and dumbbell racks and leave the squat racks for the people that are there to put in the real work.
MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH ANOTHER LIFTER WHILE PERFORMING HIP THRUSTS
Nothing says awkward like staring longingly into another lifter’s eyes while simultaneously grunting and thrusting your crotch up and down in the air.
Glute training is important (for guys and girls), but just make sure you’re not making eye contact with anyone while doing it.
DON’T STARE OR HIT ON THE CARDIO BUNNIES
We get it, attractive people work out at the gym, and gyms are social environments, but that doesn’t give you free reign to gawk, stare, or hit on someone while they’re training.
Gyms are a breeding ground for cheesy pick up lines, and if you workout at a relatively small gym, you could quickly get labeled as “that guy”.
Or you might even get banned from the gym…
TEXTING WHILE WALKING
If there was one rule we wish we could incorporate, it would be to ban smartphones from gyms. These engrossing devices have led to more time wasted and more self-absorption than anything.
They’re also a hazard to you and everyone else at the gym, if you get in the habit of staring at your phone while aimlessly walking the floor. You could easily run into a pole, squat rack, or trip over a dumbbell and fall flat on your face, or worse yet, cause someone else to get injured because you’re too busy insta-snapping on facegram.
